Waxing FAQ’s

What medications are a NO when it comes to waxing?

Differin, Accutane, Retinol, Retin-A, Antibiotics, Spironolactone, Proactiv, Tretinoin, Adapalene, Isotretinoin, Clindamycin, Doxycycline, Renova (Retin A)

If you are still questioning your skincare, please consult your doctor or feel free to reach out and I can check to make sure your skincare doesn't interfere with waxing.

How long does my hair have to be to get a Brazilian or bikini wax?
At least 2 weeks post shaving, or for a visual reference, the length of an eyelash. Yes, I know this can be
tricky first time around, but it will be worth it! There is no such thing as hair being TOO long, the longer the better.

How can I prep for my first Brazilian wax?

Drink a lot of water leading up to the appointment, wear loose clothing, and try to relax during your appointment, it will make it easier for the both of us.

What should I AVOID after a Brazilian wax?

  • Exfoliating day of or day after wax, it will make the area more sensitive. Wait 48 hours to start exfoliating (2-3x a week followed by a moisturizer)

  • Exercise for 12 hours after appt. to avoid clogging pores and irritation

  • Tanning 24 hours before and after your appointment. Pre-wax tanning is asking for your skin to be more sensitive, causing more discomfort during your wax. Post-wax tanning may cause sunburn.

  • Spray tanning before or after a wax

  • Hot showers and saunas directly after wax (cool to lukewarm water only)

  • Sexual activity for 12 hours after the appointment

  • Keep it loose! Avoid tight or constricting clothing for a few days

Do Brazilian waxes hurt?
Everyone's pain tolerance is different. I’m not going to say this is a walk in the park, It's a quick sting for 4 weeks of being hair free! If you are worried take an Ibuprofen 30 minutes before the appointment and drink your water!! Hydration is key with waxing

If I am on Accutane, how long after I stop can I wax again?

6-12 months is the general rule, please consult with your doctor first before booking an appointment.

How often should I be exfoliating?
Everyone's hair & skin type is different, but the general rule would be 2-3x times a week followed up with a good moisturizer. Exfoliating and moisturizing products can be purchased in the studio.

What exfoliating products do you recommend?
Exfoliating scrubs and moisturizers are all sold in studio. All products are designed for sensitive
skin, so they are perfect for everybody. Pick one up at you next appointment!

I'm going on vacation/my honeymoon, how many days before should I get a wax?

I usually recommend getting all your waxing done 1-2 days before you leave for vacation. If this is your first wax I always recommend getting 2-3 waxes under your belt before a vacation/big event. This way you get the best and smoothest results possible.

How can I book my appointments?
You can book directly through the booking site (Vagaro), or feel free to give me a call at 585-201-8766.

When should I rebook my Brazilian/bikini appointments?
Brazilians & bikinis are recommended every 4-6 weeks. Staying consistent is going to be key for flawless results.

Can I get a Brazilian wax if I am on my period?
Yes of course! Just know you will be a little more sensitive. I have hygiene products to freshen up with
right before your appointment.

Can I get a Brazilian wax if I am pregnant?
Yes, but please clear this with your doctor. Please know waxing while being pregnant will leave you more sensitive during and after your wax.

Do you wax men?
Yes. All Men's services are listed under services. Please know Slippery When Waxed does not offer the
Manzillian (Brazilian for men).

Can I bring my kids to my appointment?

Due to recent experiences, I have to ask not to bring your kids in. Slippery When Waxed is not a kid friendly environment.

What kind of wax do you use?
Both soft and hard wax are offered. Every client's service is individually customized to create the best results and to make the waxing experience as easy for you as possible. So both waxes may be used during your appointment.

When can I not wax?
You cannot wax if you are using any of the following medications: Accutane, Adapalene, Isotretinoin, Retin-A, Retinol, Renova, Alustra, Avita, Tazarotene, Tretinoin, Avage, Differin or antibiotics. Pretty much any acne medications or drying agents to your face. These medications dry the skin out or cause the skin to be more sensitive which can result in skin lifting if waxed. Please make sure to check your ingredients or with a doctor before booking a wax!

Can I go tanning before/after a Brazilian wax?
No, your skin will be too sensitive. Remember, waxing is an exfoliation. This goes for spray tanning as
well, before or after can affect spray tanning results.

I am on an antibiotic; how long do I have to be off of it until I can get a wax again?

Each antibiotic may stay in the body for different lengths of time, so I always recommend 7-14 days. But please consult with your doctor first!

Can I still get a wax if I have PCOS?

Yes, I have many clients who have PCOS and choose waxing over shaving.

What should I wear to my appointment?
The looser the clothes the better! This is not a fashion show, come with loose clothing to avoid further
irritation to areas being waxed.

When should I get my 1st brazilian wax ever?
If you have never been waxed before & have a big event coming up, I would recommend getting at least 2 waxes in before your event/vacation. This way, the first wax, which will be the more uncomfortable one is out of the way. After your 2nd wax, the results will be better, and you won't be as uncomfortable afterward.

How long will the results of a Brazilian wax last?
Everyone's results are different. Hair grows at different cycles. You will notice after your 1st wax some
hairs may start to appear; this isn't because we missed any but because the hairs that were under your skin time of waxing are now starting to come through. Eventually, with waxing your hairs will all be on the same growth cycle so therefore you will eventually be able to go longer between wax appointments. You will notice that after a few Brazilian waxes your hair will start to grow in thinner, slower and finer. Shaved hair is much thicker because it gets cut off at its thicket point so don't expect to be extremely smooth after your first wax.
